Built in the 18th century, Edges Mill Inn Bed & Breakfast is currently
situated on 11 acres with woods and stream that began as part of a 1,500
acre Penn land grant purchased in 1698, and has had surprisingly few changes
in ownership throughout its long history.
written records indicate that a few owners along the way, “fell on hard
times”, and, unfortunately, the Big Federal-Style farmhouse was,
for many years, left decaying and neglected. The present owners,
Gail & Harvey Perry, purchased the property in 1984 in “AS IS” condition
with the hopes that they could save this Hidden Treasure.
Restoring the dilapidated four story, nineteen room home to its original
historical charm was a labor of love and determination, (along with 12-16
hour work days) which took them 14 painstaking years to complete.
Amazingly, most of the homes authentic details and appointments, which
include; kitchen and other cupboards, 39 windows, floors and woodwork throughout,
six fireplaces*, bake oven, and a rare indoor laundry area located in the
stone mudroom, were able to be saved. *(Sorry, due to chimneys
over 200 years old and 60 feet high with no damper systems guests are not
permitted to use our fireplaces.)
Now, beautifully restored, each room of this award winning B&B is
filled with carefully chosen antiques and treasures collected throughout
the years, as well as a fine collection of original and unique artwork.
traditional hotels, motels, and many B&Bs, guests at Edges Mill are
welcome to sip early morning coffee on our big, old-fashioned garden porch
while soothing fountain sounds relax their body and mind. Or, just
kick off your shoes, relax, and take a step back in time in one of our
many common rooms, which include the Parlor, Music Room, Library, TV Room,
Dining room and Kitchen, creating the feeling of a home away from home.
All bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the 2nd floor, providing our
guests with as much privacy as possible in this intimate setting.
Since the completion of its restoration the Bed & Breakfast itself
has been quite a Cinderella, dustbin to glass slipper story, with
a very happy ending. It has been featured in the popular Polaner All-Fruit
national television commercial (Would you please pass the jelly?); has
received three awards for being voted one of the best B&Bs in Chester
County in a public poll sponsored annually by The Daily Local News: and
has been featured on The Chester County Day House Tour four times, welcoming
thousands of visitors from around the world. But, more importantly, it
has inspired many people to believe that nothing in life of any value comes
without its share of blood, sweat
and tears, that we can all make a difference, and anything is possible.
Inspired by their love of history, of people from all walks of life,
family, friends and each other, Gail & Harvey guarantee that from the
moment you check-in until it’s time to say goodbye they will do everything
that life reasonably allows to make your visit a comfortable and memorable
one. Without compromising the integrity of an era filled with grace
& beauty we make the following amenities and information available
to you, our future guests.
